Mystery Blogger Award

Hi there, babes!

I know it has been a while, or at least it seems like it to me. I’m trying to schedule two posts per week while I have the Glitz & Glitter Spotlight series running, so it would be one regular post and one GGS post. Today’s post is a regular one, as I am sure you can tell from the title!

Taiwo @ Stuffed Shelves nominated me for the Mystery Blogger Award and I am so thankful to her! I had hit a mini roadblock when it came to inspiration so hopefully this will kick me back into gear!

Here are the rules for the award:

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  6. You have to nominate 10 – 20 people
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
  9. Share a link to your best post(s)

If you haven’t heard of the Mystery Blogger Award, it is a special blogging award created by Okoto Enigma a few years ago and has been gracing the internet since then. The Mystery Blogger Award is another way to spread extra positivity on the www and make someone’s day!

Three things about me (you might already know all of them from previous posts)….hmm..

  1. I love music from the 70s and 80s- can’t get enough of it! If you catch me listening to music, it’s probably Fleetwood Mac, Hall and Oates, or Jim Croce. I can’t go a day without music and I carry 2 pairs of headphones with me at all times.
  2. I have a weird obsession with watching World’s Strictest Parents, Wife Swap, and My Strange Addiction. I find them fascinating and I always watch them before bed. Most of the time, my watch history is full of those videos. And TED talks!
  3. I’m trying to get back into artistic things, like water color painting again and sketching. A few months ago, I went out and bought painting supplies and I’m slowly getting back into it. I personally think I am awful, but I am trying not to get discouraged!

Taiwo has 5 questions for her nominees and I am answering them below!

  1. What is the best thing that has happened to you?
Gosh, I’m not sure! I think being accepted into college and knowing that I was in the next step to a great career was one of the best things that has happened so far.
  2. What do you do apart from blogging?
Apart from blogging, most of my life revolves around schoolwork. I am about to graduate into university life and I am technically already there, as I have 2 classes on campus already. I’m working on Film Appreciation and Freshman Composition II so I can get those classes out of the way before I am a full time college student.
  3. What’s your best season?
Hmm…summer or fall. I love the fall time because I adore sweaters, scarves, boots, and so many other fashion things that beautifully blend with fall.
  4. What does your dream life look like?
Okay, so this might be so basic but I truly would love to find myself happily married and with kids. In that life, I would love to blog full time or have a separate career and then blog part time. I want to live in a comfortable house where there is plenty of space inside and out that is near nature and open spaces. I really want kids, though. I can see myself with a house of ginger babies and I can teach them and take them to so many museums and raise little intellectuals!
  5. If you could be an animal, which would you be?
This is a difficult question! I do love mountain lions, also called cougars. They are so sleek and dangerous! Something about them is exciting but scary at the same time.

So that is all about me! It is time for nominations and I am tagging the bloggers here and via Twitter instead of commenting on their blogs. There are certain blogs where I am unable to comment on their websites, so that is why I am letting them know on there.

Blogs I am Loving banner

Happy Friday, my babes!

I am sure you have seen blog posts like this on other sites, but I am happy to finally be spreading some love and spotlight some blogs that I am really enjoying at the moment and I think you should follow.

Curly Hair Vegan

Briana encourages her readers to live a healthy life and she has so many great articles on food, lifestyle, and spirituality. She created CHV to encourage people to go back to the basics and shows just how easy it is to live a healthy lifestyle that is fulfilling, productive, and overall filled to the brim with positivity. Briana is one of my favorite bloggers and I always enjoy reading her blog posts. When I get an email update in the morning, I’ll typically open it and read the post first thing when I get up. A touch of positivity at the start of the day is always a good idea! Two lovely reads on Curly Hair Vegan that I had a splendid time reading are about oil pulling and the benefits when adding it into your routine and how to make scrumptious Buddha bowls.

Brighton The Day

You have probably seen her pins floating around Pinterest in the most fashionable ways or looking great on Instagram while spreading such a great message, but if you haven’t, Brighton Keller is an incredible blogger who uses her platform for only good and positive. Her outreach is rather large and her Instagram stories really speak to her followers and they can relate to them. I love Brighton The Day because it is the one place I can go when I need a good bit of fashion advice, yummy recipes, a boost in my faith, or just a good laugh. Brighton is the kind of person who makes you feel like you have been friends for a long time and I love that about her. Two of my favorite posts on BTD are a list of Brighton’s fave Christian Podcasts and It’s Okay To Not Be Okay.

Elegant Living Everyday

Jennifer Lynn and I have been following each other on Twitter for a bit and we sometimes run into each other in the same circles, which is so fabulous because I love seeing fellow blogging ladies furthering their careers and interests. So what is her blog? Elegant Living Everyday. No, not just on date night or ladies night, but every single day. She takes you through a life’s journey to live beautifully all the time and always keeps things as real as can be. Jennifer’s blog will help restore elegance in your life and I love it. Two of my favorite posts are How To Begin Your Journey and What Does It Mean To Live an Elegant Life. Both will be great to help kickstart your elegant journey!

Tea and Maz

Mariam is a brilliant blogger and I am so in love with her blog! Tea and Maz focuses on mental health, lifestyle, inspiration, and books, all of which are part of living a wonderful and full life. Her website is absolutely beautiful and you also must follow her on Instagram! Mariam is a beautiful human being and I know you are going to love her as much as I do! Two of my favorite posts on her blog are 23 Things I’ve Learnt In 23 Years and her post on Daniel Wellington Watches (I love a good watch!)

Learning Lily

Lily is a beautiful soul who I originally met on Twitter, probably while going through a blogger chat or follow group. She is such a great person and I adore her. Her blog, Learning Lily, is all about travel, lifestyle, and fashion, 3 of my favorite things! Lily’s blog is absolutely stunning and I can’t wait to see more of her accomplishments in the coming year. Two of my faves are In What Ways Is Instaram Affecting Us and Reflecting on 2017. Check out her posts and leave her a comment!

The Pink Paperdoll

Abbie is the mastermind behind The Pink Paperdoll where all things lifestyle meet unique vintage and eco-friendly natural living. Her dog Perry makes occasional appearances and he is the cutest lil bean! I do love the overall feel of The Pink Paperdoll and it is such a cute blog. You can really tell Abbie has put time and hard work into everything she does. Good job, queen! Two of my favorite posts on PP are In Praise of Old Books and 4 Unique Places To See In South Dakota.

You may have seen on Twitter this past Monday that I asked for blogs to have in this post. I asked this for a few reasons. One, there are so many blogs out there that have yet to have exposure or views even if they are amazing, so I was hoping to get smaller blogs more views and deserved exposure. Second, because there are so many blogs out there, it can be hard to come across certain blogs and while some of these blogs have a bigger reach and follower base, that doesn’t mean they aren’t amazing. I also wanted to find more blogs that I would love and want in the Glitz and Glitter Spotlight!

To bloggers who responded to my tweet and your blog wasn’t featured in this post or the next ones, I apologize. Your blog is amazing and because I got such an overwhelming response, I am not able to have decent sized posts that don’t go too long, even with a second part coming next week. However, I do think all of the blogs are great and for those blogs who didn’t make the Spotlight, I am going to quote retweet the links you sent me and say what I liked about your blog.

I received and read through 77 blogs in one day and when I started out, I only expected to get 5 or so, if that. Seeing all of those blogs was incredible. There were book bloggers, lifestyle, beauty, fashion bloggers, mental health bloggers, and everything under the sun. You all expanded my views and touched my heart with some of your stories. You each deserve your own separate blog posts because you are so unique.

If you liked this post and can’t wait to see the next installment in the Glitz and Glitter Spotlight series, I would truly appreciate it if you shared this post. Not only will it help Glitz and Glitter, but it will help the bloggers featured.

Who is one of your favorite bloggers? Let me know in the comments!

I hope you have an absolutely fabulous Friday and a great weekend. I’ll keep you all updated as to when part two will be up next week, so make sure to follow me on Twitter to stay in the loop!

Lots of love and hugs!

Discover Self Love

Discover

Hi, guys!

This is the first post in my series of Discover Self Love.  I am going on a journey of truly loving and appreciating myself and doing so by working on my mind, body, and soul.  One of my posts a while ago was over self love and body confidence, but I’m here now to take the extra step to be the person I want to be and I’m hoping you guy will join me on this journey!

Discover Self Love is more than just “well, it’s been fun and I think I am okay with myself now. I guess this is self love.” This journey is (hopefully) going to have a positive change on my main 3: mind, body, and soul.  I’m combating the negative with only good thoughts, good food, and good everything.  I have a few books I’m going to be reading, a few music playlists, and a daily To Do list prepared so let’s get into it!

The two books I am going to be reading are Unworthy: How To Stop Hating Yourself by Anneli Rufus and Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Both books sound absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to read them. I ordered the first one and I should be getting it in the mail within the next few weeks and the second one I am getting from the library.  (Note: if you aren’t a part of your local library, go get a library card! You have so many books and resources at your disposal!)

My daily To Do list is going to consist of the following:

  • Drink a lot more water, including a glass in the morning
  • Eat better foods
  • Do yoga in the morning, even just small warm up sequences
  • Read a book
  • Journal (I have a few prompts and ideas on my Pinterest, so if you want some good ideas, check it out!)
  • Listen to a good music playlist
  • Try. Not. To. Curse.

With all that said, I really hope you follow Discover Self Love and embrace truly loving yourself while I learn to love myself.

An Exciting Look Into 2018

img_20180101_1701571217513059.png

Happy New Year, babes!

As you may have noticed, Glitz & Glitter has taken a new look and is still on the road to improvement.  I’m not finished with the new site yet, so it still looks a bit rough.  This year, I have a few things I hope to accomplish on Glitz & Glitter, a few new projects, and a lot of fun things coming in 2018!

The first project I have in mind is a multiple part venture of learning to love your body, mind, and spirit.  Lately, I have been rather negative on myself and I hope to change that through a few different mind changing steps that I have gathered from Pinterest and different websites.  I’m also going to be reading Unworthy: How To Stop Hating Yourself by Anneli Rufus as I go along on this ultimate self love journey.

As part of a Blogmas post I did, I mentioned that I am hoping to somehow incorporate my faith into my posts and I am still trying to figure all of that out.  I’m on a journey of faith myself and my biggest obstacle is myself.  Hopefully, though, that will happen sometime in 2018.

Also, if you have any suggestions as to what you would like to see more of on Glitz & Glitter, drop me a comment down below and let me know! I would love to hear your ideas and thoughts.

I definitely want to bring more positivity to Glitz & Glitter this year. Somehow I’m hoping that this will make me more positive, but we shall see.

This year, I hope to take Glitz & Glitter where I wanted it to go when I first thought of starting a blog.  I’ve been blogging for 9 months, so I am still learning and growing! Thank you all for supporting me and sticking with me throughout this journey! I love and appreciate every one of you.

Happy New Year!

This Year In Review

Hi there, babes!

Can you believe this year is almost over? A new year is dawning and with that comes new opportunity, hope, and the excitement of change. This year, especially the past 7 months, have been so incredible for me. So many things, both good and bad, have happened and I have grown because of it. Here is a list of my 2017 in review…

I have lost things and I have gained things. I’ve lost friendships, weight, and patience, but I also gained some of those things as well. I’ve learned to love my body and remember how truly amazing it is. Women can grow life within them and nurture that same life with their body. We are strong and independent. My body houses my soul and spirit, the most beautiful things about me. I have met new people, called some of them friends. I have lost people and felt heavy confusion. I have learned my value. I reconnected with an amazing friend and I am so happy she is in my life again. I’ve set goals and know that I will work toward them.

I’ve been sad, doubted my existence, and wanted to quit it all, but at the end of the day, I continued on the path of life, hoping that the next day would be better. I went through a while with my eyes closed and blindly grasping for hope and serenity. Anxiety, stress, and their friends came back and I tried to defend myself against them, at some points claiming victory and other times retreating to then wage battle again.

Loving and losing, but realizing what I deserve and what I don’t deserve has been hard because I have had to ignore and walk away from things I didn’t want to have to. That’s where I learned my self-worth and the value of a good friend, one who will stay with me throughout my life and bring down the retirement home with. She has been a bright star in the night sky and I love her to pieces.

I took a huge leap of I don’t know what and started a blog. Glitz & Glitter became more than an idea and a dream, it became a reality and I have gone so many places because of it. Every single person who follows me, interacts with my work, and supports me has been a beacon along the way and has helped me continue on when I think I have hit a block in the road. We don’t stop the journey and turn back, we find a different route.

Has everything been easy? No, absolutely not. There have been a lot of tears shed, patience run thin, and stitches in the heart, but I made it. We have made it a year and we will make it through the next. I don’t know what 2018 holds but I pray for only goodness, peace, hope, and happiness for all of us.

This is my last post until the new year and I can’t wait to see you all back here in 2018.

Lots of love, blessings, and hugs from me to you….

Get Your Money Back: 2017 Product Flops

img_20171227_131008973626057.png

Hi, babes! Happy Thursday!

20171227_1111582073782878.jpg

Today’s post is a collection of my least favorite products from 2017.  I have a small bin full of products that were rather disappointing and I’m here to share them with you. Grab a snack, grab some tea, let’s go!
Note: please excuse some of the horrid photos! My camera failed to load the images properly so I just retook them on my phone in night lighting!

First up is the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine smoothing cream that is designed for “frizzy, dry, and unmanageable hair”.  I have naturally curly hair that likes to frizz out whenever a brush comes into close proximity with it so I had high hopes for this product.  It is supposed to 1) make your hair smooth and sleek, 2) make your hair 10x smoother, and 3) last in up to 97% humidity.  Let me tell you, it does not work on my hair.  I used the amount suggested and my hair laughed in its face, so I added some more product to tame (or in my case, slightly control) the mop of curls, but it only ended in my hair feeling thick, greasy, and overall gross.  I tried a few different ways to help my hair with this product and it just didn’t do what it said it would.  Into the “Bin of Shame” Garnier went.

While I was shopping at Rue21 months ago, I found a cream contour and correcting concealers palette and decided to give it a go.  Previously, I had never worked with cream contours or concealers, so I watched a load of videos to get an idea of how to apply them.  Even with the help of skilled direction, it didn’t work.  The brush is absolutely disgusting and clogs up with product, making it nearly impossible to use.  The creams didn’t want to blend out well and it was kind of chunky.  If you are looking to invest in a cream contour or color corrector palette, don’t get this one!

There are two more Rue21 Beauty products in the “Bin of Shame” and both of them are lip products with their own set of problems.  The first is a silver metallic lip cream with a matte finish.  This stuff does not budge! It dried into any and all fine lines in my lips and refused to come off, even with the power of a makeup remover wipe and scrubbing.  It isn’t very pigmented and you have to layer the product to get semi-decent coverage.

The nude lipstick in the shade (you guessed it) “Nude” is very strange. When you roll the tube out, it has an ombre look of me with a bad sunburn to a tan nude shade at the very tip.  The lipstick itself has a very nasty formula and it is so incredibly sheer.  It spreads around way too much and there is no way I would pay the $3 it retails for.  It was on clearance when I bought it and I paid $1, thankfully.

The next product that calls the “Bin of Shame” home is another nude lipstick.  It is the first and so far only product I own from Flower Beauty by Drew Barrymore.  I love me some Drew, but this lipstick is a no go.  I bought the shade “Nude Narcissus”, which looked like a darker nude with brown tones.  I do love the packaging, though! Fun story: when I bought this, I thought the little clear part at the bottom had a lip balm in it like e.l.f. lipsticks do, so I hacked away at it for a good 10 minutes with a small utility knife.  I finally moved it enough to find out that it was painted and very much hollow.  I popped it back in its place and felt like such an idiot, but now I know that they don’t have a matching lip balm! Anyway, back to the product: I’m not a fan.  It doesn’t apply the same color on my lips as it looks like on the tube and I don’t like the formula.  It spreads around too much and I don’t like the coverage.  I do want to try other Flower Beauty products in the future, though!

Lastly, we have a age defying serum roller from Skin Nutritions.  The packaging said it was comparable to the age defy roller from Garnier, I believe, so I got it at the fraction of the price of the original.  I wore the formula under my eyes all night and it was really sticky when I got up the next morning.  I had to wash it off (which I don’t think you are actually supposed to) because I could not touch my under eyes.  It also makes your hands really sticky if you touch it.  It was another product that went into the “Bin of Shame”.

There you have it! The “Bin of Shame” is now empty and I hope it won’t have any products in it in 2018.

There will be a new post on Saturday and it is going to be the last post of 2017 on Glitz & Glitter! Stay tuned!

Lots of hugs!
