New: February Ipsy Bag Review

February ipsy bag banner

Hi, babes!

One of the subscription boxes/bags that I have wanted to try for the longest time (literally years!) is ipsy. If you don’t know what ipsy is, it is a monthly subscription service that sends its subscribers a hot pink bag that contains 4 to 5 mini beauty and/or skincare items. Each bag is $10 and you truly get awesome items.

I got this bag free because one of my lovely blogger ladies had a free bag to give away. Just to be clear, this is in no way a sponsored post! All opinions are my own.

Klorane Dry Shampoo

Truthfully, when I saw in the email that I was getting a dry shampoo, I was pretty disappointed. I’m not really a fan of dry shampoo because it makes my scalp feel really clogged up and overall a lot more dirty than before I used it. However, this dry shampoo from Klorane is great! It has oat milk so it doesn’t dry out your scalp. It took a bit of brushing out to get the white powder to simmer down and not look like I had bride of Frankenstein hair going on! I used it yesterday and it has been three days since I washed my hair. My hair feels great!

Biobelle Mask

While this mask looks great, I haven’t tried it yet. I don’t typically do a full face of makeup and when I do, I forget that I have this mask. The mask claims to work as a primer to prep your face and then you put on your makeup for a flawless look. It is gluten free, paraben free, and non GMO, plus it has tea tree oil and rosehip extract with a bit of vitamin C, so your face is sure to feel fresh. I did do a full face today (Tuesday) but I totally forgot to try the mask and it is still sitting on my desk. Once I try it, I’ll probably do a mini review on my Instagram stories. (Follow here!)

F.A.R.A.H. Brush

The third product in my ipsy bag is a vibrant purple makeup brush from F.A.R.A.H. I received the large angled contour brush (30F) and let me tell you, it is so nice! The bristles are super soft and it is perfect to chisel out your cheeks or bronze up your face. The brush bristles are also vegan! It is said to work on dry or liquid products, but I only use it on dry products.

IT Cosmetics Concealer

I was very happy to see that the Bye Bye Under Eye concealer in my ipsy bag was in the shade Light! Most of the time, concealers and foundations are too dark for my skin and this one is a great color for me. I haven’t tried this concealer yet (just swatched it) but it feels very full coverage and I’ve heard decent things about it. The package said that it can be worn as a foundation, too, so I may try that. Again, I’ll post a mini review on the product on my Insta stories! I tend to stick to my main products and I have a concealer I really like, but next time I do my makeup, I’ll try this out!

Estate Highlighter

I did not expect to find a purple highlighter when I opened up the makeup box! The Estate Dew Me “After Glow” purple highlighter is so gorgeous and I love it! If you got this highlighter and it intimidates you, try using it as an eyeshadow. I think this highlighter would make any look instantly pop!

I got five mini items in my February bag and I love them. The bag is super cute also and I will be using this all the time! Did you like your February ipsy bag? Have you tried any of the products mentioned? Let me know in the comments below!

Get Your Money Back: 2017 Product Flops

Hi, babes! Happy Thursday!

20171227_1111582073782878.jpg

Today’s post is a collection of my least favorite products from 2017.  I have a small bin full of products that were rather disappointing and I’m here to share them with you. Grab a snack, grab some tea, let’s go!
Note: please excuse some of the horrid photos! My camera failed to load the images properly so I just retook them on my phone in night lighting!

First up is the Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine smoothing cream that is designed for “frizzy, dry, and unmanageable hair”.  I have naturally curly hair that likes to frizz out whenever a brush comes into close proximity with it so I had high hopes for this product.  It is supposed to 1) make your hair smooth and sleek, 2) make your hair 10x smoother, and 3) last in up to 97% humidity.  Let me tell you, it does not work on my hair.  I used the amount suggested and my hair laughed in its face, so I added some more product to tame (or in my case, slightly control) the mop of curls, but it only ended in my hair feeling thick, greasy, and overall gross.  I tried a few different ways to help my hair with this product and it just didn’t do what it said it would.  Into the “Bin of Shame” Garnier went.

While I was shopping at Rue21 months ago, I found a cream contour and correcting concealers palette and decided to give it a go.  Previously, I had never worked with cream contours or concealers, so I watched a load of videos to get an idea of how to apply them.  Even with the help of skilled direction, it didn’t work.  The brush is absolutely disgusting and clogs up with product, making it nearly impossible to use.  The creams didn’t want to blend out well and it was kind of chunky.  If you are looking to invest in a cream contour or color corrector palette, don’t get this one!

There are two more Rue21 Beauty products in the “Bin of Shame” and both of them are lip products with their own set of problems.  The first is a silver metallic lip cream with a matte finish.  This stuff does not budge! It dried into any and all fine lines in my lips and refused to come off, even with the power of a makeup remover wipe and scrubbing.  It isn’t very pigmented and you have to layer the product to get semi-decent coverage.

The nude lipstick in the shade (you guessed it) “Nude” is very strange. When you roll the tube out, it has an ombre look of me with a bad sunburn to a tan nude shade at the very tip.  The lipstick itself has a very nasty formula and it is so incredibly sheer.  It spreads around way too much and there is no way I would pay the $3 it retails for.  It was on clearance when I bought it and I paid $1, thankfully.

The next product that calls the “Bin of Shame” home is another nude lipstick.  It is the first and so far only product I own from Flower Beauty by Drew Barrymore.  I love me some Drew, but this lipstick is a no go.  I bought the shade “Nude Narcissus”, which looked like a darker nude with brown tones.  I do love the packaging, though! Fun story: when I bought this, I thought the little clear part at the bottom had a lip balm in it like e.l.f. lipsticks do, so I hacked away at it for a good 10 minutes with a small utility knife.  I finally moved it enough to find out that it was painted and very much hollow.  I popped it back in its place and felt like such an idiot, but now I know that they don’t have a matching lip balm! Anyway, back to the product: I’m not a fan.  It doesn’t apply the same color on my lips as it looks like on the tube and I don’t like the formula.  It spreads around too much and I don’t like the coverage.  I do want to try other Flower Beauty products in the future, though!

Lastly, we have a age defying serum roller from Skin Nutritions.  The packaging said it was comparable to the age defy roller from Garnier, I believe, so I got it at the fraction of the price of the original.  I wore the formula under my eyes all night and it was really sticky when I got up the next morning.  I had to wash it off (which I don’t think you are actually supposed to) because I could not touch my under eyes.  It also makes your hands really sticky if you touch it.  It was another product that went into the “Bin of Shame”.

There you have it! The “Bin of Shame” is now empty and I hope it won’t have any products in it in 2018.

There will be a new post on Saturday and it is going to be the last post of 2017 on Glitz & Glitter! Stay tuned!

Lots of hugs!
