Coffee Chats + Giveaway Sneak Peek

Happy weekend, friends!

For many young adults and students, it is finals week and that means the rush of studying, making sure you are prepared for big exams, and trying to sleep are your top priorities- but the last one often gets neglected! With all of the rush and all of the changes happening, I decided to sit down and just have a down to earth chat with you guys and that means this post is going to be random. Grab a snack, get a coffee (or tea!), and let’s sit down and chat.

If you read my last post then you know that I took a badly needed break for my own personal reasons and I am so glad that I did. It’s been really great to reflect on everything and to start telling myself (and believing!) that it is okay to take a break, to take a step back, and to relax if it is needed. The world won’t pass you buy if you decide to stay off of Instagram for a day or disconnect from Twitter for a few days. Life will be okay and so will you..so will I. It’s a learning experience every day that I log on here or on Instagram (you should watch my stories..I’m a hoot! Steve Carell, who?) because I always talk to new people or interact with people who I admire. With all of that and seeing changes develop, it can be pretty overwhelming to think about all of the upcoming events (good or dreadful) that are coming up and that all mean change.

When change is happening and I get worried about life, the world, and every tomorrow, the one thing that I know is always reliable is my faith. Not necessarily my but the faith of Jesus. When life becomes crazy, it is always great to sit down and read passages in my Bible that reaffirm my beliefs and that remind me that the love of Jesus will never change and it will always be there. Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” No matter what happens with school, with a job, or with family, the one solid thing that I know I can rely on is Jesus. There is something incredibly comforting in knowing that I have something solid in my life that will remain the same even though centuries pass.

But with my faith comes a problem that is like a nasty hurdle that always trips me up: my mind. How my brain loves to become a concrete barrier that blocks me from an unchained faith. “I sound stupid praying out loud. It’s just me in my car. I literally look like an insane fool.” “Does God really hear me? I feel like I am talking into the air.” “I’m not the best Christian in the world. I am selfish, I curse, I end up repenting for a lot of things.” And mostly, I think that I can rely on myself alone so I end up not asking for things or asking for help of any kind. It’s something I want to work on but admitting that I have a fault is never an easy thing.

An announcement for you guys, though, that is entirely unrelated to this topic, is that there is a giveaway happening right here on May 5th! It is just in time for Mother’s Day and there is going to be a special post on the holiday that will be published on the 5th and you guys will know all about the special giveaway in that post. I am so excited for you guys to see it and enter!

I hope your finals go well! Rest up, eat good food, and remember that school is almost over!

I have a few questions for you guys, though:

  1. What do you like to see on Instagram?
  2. What wallpaper designs do you typically like?
  3. What is your current favorite song or album?

Let me know down below, tweet me, or let me know on Instagram!

See you all on the 5th!

Brain Break + Updates

Hey, friends!

This post is long overdue and I have been really nervous to post about it. This past month or so, I have been in a slump and had zero inspiration.  When I first started Glitz and Glitter, I was blogging for me and then it became something bigger than I ever expected. I started thinking of the numbers, looking at the stats, and being disappointed when I didn’t get as many views as I had expected.  Instagram became harder and harder to get interaction on and it was (still is) so disappointing to go on Instagram and see an account where there would be blank white photo slots that had more likes than photos I took time to work on. Other influencers I follow also took time for their photos and they suffered too. It became a disappointment to even open the app.

I let the numbers get to me instead of blogging for fun and I needed a break.  In honesty, the numbers still bother me and they probably will until I no longer allow them to. I forget that I have people who follow Glitz and Glitter and interact with me and I love them. I keep thinking of numbers, how to get more views, more likes, etc. It kills the happiness I once had about blogging and I am trying to change that. So for now, Glitz and Glitter is going to be fun, or how I see fun. The posts are going to be things that I want to post and if they don’t get a lot of views, okay. It won’t ruin my life and I won’t let it ruin my day.

I needed time to get into a better mindset or even admit that I needed a break from it. Trying to stay on a one-post-a-week schedule wasn’t working and I was forcing it. It became monotonous. Starting in this season of life and of change, I’m shaking it up. The posts will be up when they go up (probably one every 2 weeks-ish), I’ll still be active on all of my social medias, and I’m still here, but Glitz and Glitter is going under some planning!

I hope you will stay with me on this journey and talk to me on social media! I truly see you guys as my friends, so contact me! Tweet me, send me funny stuff- it makes my day!

Until the next post, babes…

Mystery Blogger Award

Hi there, babes!

I know it has been a while, or at least it seems like it to me. I’m trying to schedule two posts per week while I have the Glitz & Glitter Spotlight series running, so it would be one regular post and one GGS post. Today’s post is a regular one, as I am sure you can tell from the title!

Taiwo @ Stuffed Shelves nominated me for the Mystery Blogger Award and I am so thankful to her! I had hit a mini roadblock when it came to inspiration so hopefully this will kick me back into gear!

Here are the rules for the award:

  1. Put the award logo/image on your blog
  2. List the rules.
  3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
  4. Mention the creator of the award and provide a link as well
  5. Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  6. You have to nominate 10 – 20 people
  7. Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog
  8. Ask your nominees any 5 questions of your choice; with one weird or funny question (specify)
  9. Share a link to your best post(s)

If you haven’t heard of the Mystery Blogger Award, it is a special blogging award created by Okoto Enigma a few years ago and has been gracing the internet since then. The Mystery Blogger Award is another way to spread extra positivity on the www and make someone’s day!

Three things about me (you might already know all of them from previous posts)….hmm..

  1. I love music from the 70s and 80s- can’t get enough of it! If you catch me listening to music, it’s probably Fleetwood Mac, Hall and Oates, or Jim Croce. I can’t go a day without music and I carry 2 pairs of headphones with me at all times.
  2. I have a weird obsession with watching World’s Strictest Parents, Wife Swap, and My Strange Addiction. I find them fascinating and I always watch them before bed. Most of the time, my watch history is full of those videos. And TED talks!
  3. I’m trying to get back into artistic things, like water color painting again and sketching. A few months ago, I went out and bought painting supplies and I’m slowly getting back into it. I personally think I am awful, but I am trying not to get discouraged!

Taiwo has 5 questions for her nominees and I am answering them below!

  1. What is the best thing that has happened to you?
Gosh, I’m not sure! I think being accepted into college and knowing that I was in the next step to a great career was one of the best things that has happened so far.
  2. What do you do apart from blogging?
Apart from blogging, most of my life revolves around schoolwork. I am about to graduate into university life and I am technically already there, as I have 2 classes on campus already. I’m working on Film Appreciation and Freshman Composition II so I can get those classes out of the way before I am a full time college student.
  3. What’s your best season?
Hmm…summer or fall. I love the fall time because I adore sweaters, scarves, boots, and so many other fashion things that beautifully blend with fall.
  4. What does your dream life look like?
Okay, so this might be so basic but I truly would love to find myself happily married and with kids. In that life, I would love to blog full time or have a separate career and then blog part time. I want to live in a comfortable house where there is plenty of space inside and out that is near nature and open spaces. I really want kids, though. I can see myself with a house of ginger babies and I can teach them and take them to so many museums and raise little intellectuals!
  5. If you could be an animal, which would you be?
This is a difficult question! I do love mountain lions, also called cougars. They are so sleek and dangerous! Something about them is exciting but scary at the same time.

So that is all about me! It is time for nominations and I am tagging the bloggers here and via Twitter instead of commenting on their blogs. There are certain blogs where I am unable to comment on their websites, so that is why I am letting them know on there.

  2. Are you a fan of blogger chats on social media? Why or why not?
  3. What is your favorite food? (I’m sorry this might be a hard question! I have way too many favorite foods to pick just one!)

Discover Self Love

Discover

Hi, guys!

This is the first post in my series of Discover Self Love.  I am going on a journey of truly loving and appreciating myself and doing so by working on my mind, body, and soul.  One of my posts a while ago was over self love and body confidence, but I’m here now to take the extra step to be the person I want to be and I’m hoping you guy will join me on this journey!

Discover Self Love is more than just “well, it’s been fun and I think I am okay with myself now. I guess this is self love.” This journey is (hopefully) going to have a positive change on my main 3: mind, body, and soul.  I’m combating the negative with only good thoughts, good food, and good everything.  I have a few books I’m going to be reading, a few music playlists, and a daily To Do list prepared so let’s get into it!

The two books I am going to be reading are Unworthy: How To Stop Hating Yourself by Anneli Rufus and Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.  Both books sound absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to read them. I ordered the first one and I should be getting it in the mail within the next few weeks and the second one I am getting from the library.  (Note: if you aren’t a part of your local library, go get a library card! You have so many books and resources at your disposal!)

My daily To Do list is going to consist of the following:

  • Drink a lot more water, including a glass in the morning
  • Eat better foods
  • Do yoga in the morning, even just small warm up sequences
  • Read a book
  • Journal (I have a few prompts and ideas on my Pinterest, so if you want some good ideas, check it out!)
  • Listen to a good music playlist
  • Try. Not. To. Curse.

With all that said, I really hope you follow Discover Self Love and embrace truly loving yourself while I learn to love myself.

Macramé & Mimosas Event

Hello, lovelies!

Today’s post is one that I am very excited to share! Earlier this month, I went to a blogger event in Tulsa with my friend Tiffany and we had such a great time! The Macramé and Mimosas event was hosted at the Retro Den in Tulsa and we were taught how to create a gorgeous macramé planter by Natasha from House Sparrow Fine Nesting.

We each made a cute macramé planter and made it home to succulent plant.  There were mimosas, churros, and lots of coffee to go around.  Ashley and Ashley, owners of the Retro Den, made everyone feel like they were at home and they had everything we could possibly need at the event.  Their store has a lot of amazing couches, planters, glassware, prints, and so much more! If you are ever in Tulsa on Harvard street, make sure to stop by and tell them that Mimi from Glitz and Glitter sent you! I had a hard time not buying everything in their store, especially the retro couches and pillows! You could turn your home into your modern Pinterest dreams with all of the furniture and artwork they have!

Tiffany and I (photo above!) made a day out of it and went to Utica Square while we were in the area: Starbucks and sitting outside on the patio.  Tulsa is such a historic city and there are a lot of cool digs if you know where to find them! Utica Square, Cherry Street, and Downtown are just a few of my favorite spots!

We met a few new bloggers and the setting was so relaxing and chilled out.

Macramé is an art, one that is well worth the time and effort! Natasha has a shop on Etsy and she has really amazing patterns for sale so you can make your own macramé creations!

The Retro Den hosts  really cool events so make sure to go follow them on their accounts so you can stay updated on all of their events!

Abbey is such an amazing photographer! I hardly ever love photos that are taken of me, but I absolutely love the photos she took!

Next week’s post is going to be a very fun Christmas guide that includes a lot of really cool Etsy finds that I love, so stay tuned for that! I hope you have a great week and that you had an amazing Thanksgiving, if you celebrate the holiday.  We are currently dressing up our house for Christmas and have tunes playing in the background.

Feel free to connect with me on all of my socials! Links will be below!

Have a great week, babes, and don’t forget to smile!

Liebster Award pt. 2

liebster2

Hi, loves!

Yesterday I got a notification that I was nominated for the Liebster Award again! I have been nominated a few times and I want to apologize if you nominated me and I never got back to you or thanked you for the nomination.  I am truly awful at responding to tweets and things, so I sincerely apologize!

The blogger who nominated me is Ashley from It’s Ashley Marie (her links will be below!).  Thank you so much, Ashley! You are a sweetie!

So to complete this nomination, you are supposed to give 10 facts about yourself and answer the 6 interview questions (the questions that I answer, you will answer if you accept the nomination!).  I hope that makes sense!

10 Facts About Me

  1. I think I am a weird mix of extrovert and introvert.  There are some cases where I am a very exuberant and out-going person, but then there are other times when I want to hide behind a curtain and never be seen by anyone.
  2. I don’t know what my Meyers-Briggs personality! I know everyone is always saying “Oh, yeah I am totally an INTJ.” but I have no idea what that stands for! Honestly, I say “integer” in my head when I see that..it makes no sense, I know.  So let’s find out what group I am in, shall we? (about a 5 minute time lapse..) Okay, never mind.  It costs about $45 to take the official test and I don’t care that much to pay for it.
  3. I am going to be majoring in fashion marketing next year!
  4. My favorite nail design is the ever classic French manicure! There’s just something about that perfectly drawn white nail tip that is so fetching!
  5. I’m currently working on writing a script for a play…we’ll see how that goes.
  6. I’m pretty old school when it comes to dating.  I want to get to know the person as a friend before I consider dating them and when I do date someone, it is because I can see a possible future with them.  Is that old school?
  7. I think men are 100% more attractive when they wear a tantalizing cologne! Woodsy amber scents are my favorite!
  8. I love camping and hiking! A few of the places I want to camp or hike are the Ozarks, the Smokey Mountains, and Colorado.  You bring the organic snacks (yes, organic tastes better!), I’ll bring the tent and camping bags!
  9. I would really like to own a cabin somewhere in the woods where there are pine trees for miles! It has to have a nice deck where I can sit and have my morning coffee or tea while I enjoy the fresh air.  I basically want to buy a cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico! If you are ever looking for a great place to vacation and have a good chance at seeing elk, go to Ruidoso!
  10. I own one painting! I bought it for under $5 at a small sale and got it framed.  I don’t know why I love it so much, but it is the first piece of art that I purchased, so it holds a place in my heart! The artist is a woman named Elizabeth McHugh and I haven’t been able to find any other information about her, but, Elizabeth, I love your art.

A Short Interview.png

  1. What is one place you haven’t been that is on the top of your bucket list?
Definitely the UK! I want to see all of it! There are so many beautiful places that I have seen on Instagram from the UK and I want to go see them in person!
  2. What is the most daring experience you have had?
I just recently went to an amusement park in OKC and there was a roller coaster that did a circle loop and you would be upside down when you went in that loop.  I was so terrified of falling to my death! It was so much fun though, so I ended up going on it another 3 or 4 times! The other experience was last year at the Tulsa State Fair and they had a ride that goes up in the air and stops, then unexpectedly drops to the ground! My bum rose out of my seat and I knew it was the end.  But the straps and bar held me in, so I am here to tell you how I almost died and flew straight into heaven!
  3. What is your greatest accomplishment?
Goodness! I can’t quite say.  Getting accepted into my choice for uni definitely is up there.  I’m happy I was accepted because I only had one definite backup where I was already enrolled!
  4.   What is your biggest fear?
I honestly have so many that it is hard to list all of them! I fear the lack of love and happiness, that everyone secretly hates me, and that I am never going to be successful in anything I want to do.  And suffocation..I fear suffocation greatly.
  5. What’s a hidden talent you have?
I can do a weird thing with my eyes when I look up and they look funny.  I call it Gecko Eyes.  One ends up farther apart than the other one.  It’s quite strange!
  6. What’s an activity, craft, or sport that you want to learn to do?
I would love to know how to sing properly! I love singing but if it comes to more than just jamming out in my car in the mornings while I am driving to uni, then all bets are off! I don’t tend to sing in front of others because I value their ability to hear!

Here are my nominees for the Liebster Award!

You guys don’t have to do the post if you don’t want to! It is a fun post and helps readers get to know you, so I personally love these posts!

I hope you all have a great Sunday and the rest of the week! I’m off to my first blogger event today and I am going to take lots of photos and have a blog post about it next week!

Lots of love and hugs!

Jamberry Nail Wraps from Laila | review

Jamberry nail wraps banner

Hi, babes! Welcome back to Glitz & Glitter, the best little place on the internet.  Here at Glitz & Glitter, we (and by “we”, I mean me, myself, and I) stand for happiness, uniqueness, and all things lovely.  If you want to be a part of the Glitz & Glitter Tribe, hit that follow button and you are automatically a part of the tribe!

Today’s review should have been up a while ago, but Blogtober called and then things in my life blew up, so the schedule was thrown out of whack.  A while back, a lovely gal named Laila sent me two sample packs of Jamberry nail wraps to try out and review and I can’t wait to tell you about them.  You have probably seen nail wraps before (they are also called nail stickers) in your local shop, but if you haven’t here is a picture of them!

20171028_1958472084116385.jpg

Nail wraps are nail stickers that apply to your nail and seal with heat (I used my hair dryer).  They last for a while and they don’t chip like nail polish does! There is no drying time spent worrying about accidentally denting a nail and redoing anything; just apply, heat, press, and voila! I heated the wraps multiple times while they were on my nails and while I shaped them so I would get the best seal I could.  I did have problems with the wraps lifting, but that was my own fault.  I am a novice at applying the wraps so they definitely weren’t perfect.  There were creases at the sides and I picked at them throughout the week (I know: BAD. Piece of advice: don’t pick at them, no matter how tempting it is!) so that did factor into the short wear time.

The nail wraps are great and I still have some left over! The next time I use them, I am certainly going to have a nail station with everything prepared in front of me so I won’t be scrambling for anything!

I stupidly forgot to take photos of when I wore the wraps, so I don’t have a picture of me wearing them.   I do plan on trying the nail wraps again and hopefully perfecting them, so when I do, I’ll be adding the images on this post!

20171028_195802168187957.jpg

Thank you so much, Laila, for sending me the nail wraps and for being so understanding about my late posting! I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!

Laila’s links will be down below, so make sure to check them out!

I hope you have a fabulous week and don’t forget to smile and listen to amazing music!

Maple Holistics Conditioner Review

maple holistics banner

Hello, babes!

Welcome back to Glitz & Glitter!

Today’s post is a review of a product that was sent to me by Maple Holistics. You may have heard of them from Marielli (thelatinabeautyfix), a friend of mine who has an amazing blog! She has reviewed some of their products before and I am happy that I get to review one of their products for you guys!

I was sent the Hair Superfood Thickening Conditioner to test out a month or so ago, but due to the backup of blog posts and some crazy things in my personal life, I am just now getting to post this.

Let’s start off with a bit of factoids about the conditioner!

  • It is a thickening conditioner, so it is meant for thinning hair. Granted, I don’t have a problem with thinning hair, as my hair is quite thick naturally, but I still wanted to give this product a try!
  • It has a special tingling effect from the menthol and tea tree oil that are in the product. There are a lot of natural ingredients in this conditioner and I love the tingle!
  • It has Volumizing and Oil Therapy.

The conditioner is great and I really think it will be a great product for you if your hair is starting to thin out a bit and you want to get the volume back into your hair. Again, my hair is very thick, so I really can’t tell you if it made my hair thicker or not. My hair did seem to have a bit of volume to it, though, so that is a plus! The tingle is also great, especially since I used the conditioner with my Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo! Double the tingly clean effect!

I couldn’t find an exact price for the conditioner because I couldn’t find it on the website, but the conditioners on their website retail for around $12. If you are looking for a more natural conditioner that also combats thinning hair, I would suggest you give this a try!

Thank you to Maple Holistics for sending me this product!

I hope you guys have an absolutely fabulous week and don’t forget to smile!

Essence & Makeup Revolution review | Recent Ulta Buy

Ulta Purchase banner

Hello, babes!

We are so so close to fall and I am already feeling the fall vibes! I’ve been trying new makeup looks for a fall collaboration coming soon and I am so excited to show it to you guys! It will be out sometime this month, so be on the lookout for that! Also: I am going to be doing a small Blogmas series in December and I am already have a few ideas going for that! There is already one collaboration planned out for that, BUT I am looking for more bloggers to collaborate with! If you would like to collaborate with me for a Blogmas post that is all things festive and glitzy, please leave a comment below with your information or send me an email at glitzandglitterblog@gmail.com! I would love to work with you!

Okay, now that the announcements are out of the way, let’s jump into the reviews!

I went to Ulta this past Thursday and I was looking for a few things that were affordable and good quality. Granted I have never tried any products from Essence before now, so I had no clue if their products were great, but when I saw the display and how affordable the products were, I knew I had to give them a try! I picked out the Essence Cover Stick in “10 Matt Naturelle” and the gel nail polish in “53 Rock My World”. The cover stick was around $3 and the nail polish was $2, so they are really affordable!

The cover stick is fantastic! I was in desperate need of a good concealer and while I am not really a huge fan of concealer sticks, this one is one of my favorites now. It has great coverage without feeling super heavy and it is buildable. I just put some on my under eyes, nose, chin, and some on my forehead and blend out for great coverage and a good look. I don’t wear foundation much anymore, so a good concealer is great for me. Essence has done a marvelous job! The formula is really creamy and smooth, not streaky or too thick.

The nail polish is a dark grey/charcoal color that I am now in love with. I do recommend using two coats and not just one, like I did. It does cover really nicely, but there are a few streaky spots. If you are in a rush and only have time for one coat, be generous and you’ll do fine!

26749408_unknown

Next up is the Lip Amplification lip gloss from Makeup Revolution! The Makeup Revolution glosses were on sale for $2.49 that day, so I figured I should pick one up! I purchased the shade “Conviction” and while it looks like a dark brown in the package, it is actually a dark berry shade. When you build it up, it almost looks brown/black, but I rather like it. The formula is pretty good and it goes on smoothly. I had to apply it twice to make sure I had an even look and zero streaks. I’m a big fan of Makeup Revolution and I loved this gloss!

All of the products are absolutely awesome and I hope you check them out the next time you are at Ulta!

Have a great weekend, my loves! Don’t forget to smile and take your fabulous sass wherever you go!

My August Favorites

August.png

Hi, babes! Welcome back to my crazy corner of the internet!

This is the first monthly favorites post that I have posted and I am so excited to share a few new products with you guys!

26749056_unknown

Lately I have been using the Tea Tree facial cleansing wipes from Morgan Miller when I wake up in the morning, when I go to bed, and whenever I am getting ready to do my makeup. I’m super lazy and I think my face has actually looked a lot better since I started using the wipes! They are really affordable and I love them! I found them at Ross (my holy grail store!) for $4 and I am so happy that I found them!

26749024_unknown

The Wet N Wild Au Naturel eyeshadow palette in “Nude Awakening” has been my go-to eyeshadow palette lately! I’m currently working with another blogger for a fall collaboration coming out this month and I picked up this palette specifically for fall makeup looks to try out. It is very affordable (around $5), cruelty-free, and it is a drugstore brand. Wet N Wild does have some vegan products, but I don’t know if this palette is vegan or not. The colors in this palette are very pigmented and they range from creme vanilla shades (in both matte and shimmer) to dark gray and black. There are 5 shimmer shades and 5 matte shades, so you get a total of 10 different shades. It is a great buy and I love it!

If you have read some of my previous posts, you probably know that I am a face mask fanatic, especially when it comes to sheet masks! I can’t get enough of them. While I was at Ross, I picked up three different sheet mask packs: Morgan Miller vitamin C & Ginseng masks, Epielle Collagen 3-Step complete facial kit, and the Live Green natural olive masks. The Morgan Miller pack and the Live Green pack both have 5 sheet masks, while the Epielle kit contained two different masks, both had the bubble oxygen cleanser and the moisturizer serum included. I have tried both of those two masks and I love both of them! The Vitamin C and Ginseng mask makes my face feel refreshed and pampered in 2o minutes, which is fantastic for a little pick me up before going out again in the evening! The Epielle mask kit is absolutely amazing! The cleanser gets so bubbly and foamy and the moisturizer serum really makes my skin feel hydrated and fresh again. Then you go in with the mask for 20 minutes and that makes all the difference in the world! I love these two products!

Today I purchased the Mama Mia soundtrack (so technically it isn’t something I bought in August, but oh well!) and I am so obsessed! I had to listen to it on Spotify and I always used up all of my skips trying to get to my favorite songs. After a while of putting up with that, I just said “Forget it!” and was dead set on buying it. Today I went to a great bookstore and found a special edition of the soundtrack for $5! My hour and fifteen minute drives to college are going to be so much better now! Mama Mia, anyone?

I also purchased a Himalayan salt block that has three spots for tea light candles (from Ross..eheehee) and I set in my bathroom to give it a better look. I have gone through two sets of candles since I bought it. I am so obsessed with it! It’s so pretty! Do any of you guys have a salt lamp or candle holder?

That’s all I have for my August Favorites! Hopefully there will be even more finds in September! Fall is right around the corner and I can’t wait for all of the fall things!

Have a fabulous weekend and don’t forget to show off your fabulous smile!
