Body Positivity & Loving Yourself!

Lifestyle banner

Hello, my lovelies!

Today's blog post is over something that is really important to me and I think a lot of people struggle with. A lot of people, both women and men, struggle with self love and being confident in their own body. People of any size, from 0 to 30, all have struggles with their self esteem and other body confidence related things. Today I am going to talk to you guys about my own struggles with learning to love myself, the journey I have been on, and a few things that you can do to start learning how to love yourself, too!

Since I was around 12 or 13, I have been aware of my size and how I look. When someone points it out to you (like you are unaware of your size and how you look!), a little seed of doubt starts to form in your mind and you quickly start to lose your confidence and happiness. Someone who was relatively close to me pointed out my weight in the rudest way a human could and it tore down all of my self-confidence and positivity. Now you may be thinking "Okay, one person was rude to you and you lost it?", and you are right. Up until that point, I never saw myself as the "fat friend" or anything like that. Yes, I had skinny friends and I was bigger than they were, but that was normal for me. I was always accepted for who I was and no one had ever been rude to be about it. So for hours on end, I was tormented by this one person and anytime they spoke to me, rude comments and jabs came flowing out. I left them that day at one of my saddest points of my life.

After that, I never felt comfortable in my own skin. It tore me down and it took years to get over it. I started exercising at home for all of the wrong reasons, I didn't think I was beautiful, and I doubted myself in every way.

I would start riding an exercise bike and I wouldn't stop until I biked 15 or 20 miles. It was like that for a week straight, and then I pushed myself even harder. I thought that by losing weight, I would be beautiful and no one would say such nasty things to me anymore. The exercising didn't last though, and I fell back into not doing anything.

A few years after that, I started working out again for better reasons, but they all fell back to the same things: I felt gross in my own skin, I was a flabby monster, and I was never going to find someone who loved me 100% because I was fat. So the routines started again and I worked for a month, then would stop, and the cycle continued for months. I met a guy who always talked about how hot fit girls were and I knew that he would never be into me because I was fat. I wanted him to like me so what did I do? I worked out like crazy. Every day without fail, I would hop on that exercise bike and work my butt off until my legs felt like jelly. I probably lost 10 pounds (at most) during that entire process and guess what, he never paid anymore attention to me. I should have seen it, but I didn't. I stopped working out due to other reasons and then I started working out again a few months later because I wanted to make a statement to others. "Oh, she was so sad and fat, so pitiful. But now she looks awesome and she is so hot! What happened to her?" That never happened either! During all of that time, my reasons for trying to lose weight were never the right reasons to and I fell out of it.

Now I occasionally walk on the treadmill and do some other exercises. I eat better now and I have finally come to better terms with myself. It has taken a lot to get to this point. A lot of crying, hating myself, and eating later, here I am: a somewhat confident plus size woman who believes in herself again.

My biggest problem during the entire process was that I didn't love myself, thus the crazy working out. Now I love myself and if I work out, that's great, but if I don't, I no longer kill myself over it. Taking the time to work on yourself mentally rather than physically is more important to me. Yes, if you enjoy working out, do that! I am sticking to eating better and then I will start using the gym at college next month. Two days a week, I am going to take the time at the gym. While the little nagging voice in my head still says that I need to workout so I can be pretty, my reasons for wanting to work out now are different. I am doing it to feel healthier and better. My mindset is better.

I still struggle with loving myself and practicing self love. I will probably always have a slight bit of doubt, but I have hit a point where I know who I am and I love myself. Being able to say "Yes, I am amazing, beautiful, and I deserve love. I can act like a total boss and not put myself down and that is not selfish. I am worthy of everything good and I won't walk with my head down." is phenomenal! You are not conceited if you portray yourself as a confident person. Some people may think you are, but they don't know you. Believe in yourself and don't let the opinions of others hurt you or tear you down.

All bodies are beautiful bodies! Stretch marks, cellulite, dimples, and all!

There are a few things that I do even still that help give my confidence a boost and I hope you try them too!

  • Jam Out! banner.pngI listen to music that inspires me and makes me feel confident. If you go on Spotify, you can find a lot of playlists that are dedicated to having songs that make you feel like a confident, awesome, and empowered woman. A few of my favorite songs are "Confident" by Demi Lovato, "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten, "Really Don't Care" by Demi Lovato and Cher Lloyd, and "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves. Finding good songs that make you feel happy and make you smile are the best songs!

  • Quote It! banner.pngLook at daily affirmations and quotes about confidence. Find some of your favorite quotes and write them on some sticky notes, then put them on your mirror or somewhere that you look at often. It could be on your desk, your headboard, your nightstand, your car, anywhere. Write in colorful markers, pens, use awesome stickers, personalize it anyway you want!

  • Dress the Best! bannerFind some clothes that make you look good! For me, when I am wearing an outfit that makes me feel beautiful, I radiate happiness and confidence. I feel most confident when I am wearing shoes that make me taller. If you don't have any clothes that you like, go shopping! If you don't have the money for it, look at some cool DIYs to revamp the clothes you already own! When you go shopping, you don't have to break the bank. Going to stores like Ross, Target, and Forever21 are affordable and they have great styles. Target's section for thick women is AMAZING and I want to buy up the entire store!

  • Good Vibes ONLY! bannerDon't keep negative people in your life. If you have someone who is constantly putting you down, you either need to have a down to earth chat with them or dump them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. Find a group of people who are there for you and who won't keep putting you down. Making new friends is a great way to add some positivity in your life!

  • Change It Up! banner..pngGo for some change! If you want to start testing out some different makeup styles, go to a store (my favorite is Ulta) and ask someone there to help you figure out which products will work best with you. If you want a hair style change, mama go for it! You do what you need to do to feel happy with yourself once again! Pamper yourself!

  • Put Good In, Get Good Out! bannerOne of the things that has made me feel better is eating better! Fruits, veggies, less of this, more of that. Just a bit of change to what you put into your body. If you are constantly eating foods that aren't the best for you, trust me, it will make an impact on your life. Not all healthy food tastes bad, either! Look up some easy recipes that have good ingredients and play around in the kitchen!

Those are my tips! I find a lot of awesome ideas for outfits, quotes, and yummy recipes on Pinterest. My Pinterest is Mimi Olson (queenmimi8) so feel free to follow me and message me! I will be happy to send you some of my favorite boards and pins to help you get started!

Learning to love yourself and having confidence will take a little bit. It isn't something that you will immediately have. I took years to get to where I am. The first step is to start treating yourself better. If you are constantly putting yourself down, you need to stop right now. You are worthy of happiness, you are worthy of love, and you are worthy of all the goodness in the world. Stop telling yourself that you aren't.

Meditate, do yoga, find some awesome candles that make you happy, redecorate! Do whatever you need to do to replace negativity in your life!

Spread happiness, spread love, and remember to smile.

If you want me to help you along with your self love journey, please feel free to email me at glitzandglitterblog@gmail.com! I would love to talk to you and encourage you! You can also DM me on Instagram or Twitter. My links will be below!

I hope you have an absolutely fabulous day!

How To Get Fabulous Feet

img_3132

Hi there! Thank you so much for checking out my blog! I truly appreciate it and I hope you enjoy!

For the longest time, my feet were pretty rough looking because I go barefoot all the time when I am at home. I wear sandals or flip flops when I go out, so earlier this year, I looked at my heels while I was out and I didn’t like how they looked. My feet were dry and needed to be pampered. A couple of days and a few dollars later, I had a two sided foot file and I was ready to tackle my feet. On one side of the file, you had a metal grater and then on the other side was a regular file. The only problem with this was after the first time I used it, the metal side (which came off so you could empty the catch) never fit back into place after I took it off to empty out the bottom. Anytime I used it, I would have to hold on to the metal part so it would stay on. The metal grate was not easy to clean at all, so it stopped working efficiently. I stopped using the foot file and it sat abandoned in a crate of other random products in my bathroom.

A few weeks ago, I went to the store and purchased a new foot file and a foot scrub in hopes of getting nice feet again. I bought the Freeman “Bare Foot” Exfoliating Foot Scrub in the scent Peppermint and Plum (smells amazing!) and a new sugar foot file from ONYX Professional. Let me tell you, these products together are amazing! The file takes all of the dead skin away and the scrub helps soften everything up!

Here is how to get your feet into tip top shape again!

  • First I like to soak my feet in some warm water and body wash. My current fave is Rosé Champagne body wash from Bath and Body Works- smells so good and makes me feel refreshed and kind of feminine! Then I will take a little of the Freeman “Bare Foot” scrub and massage that all over my feet.
  • Second, I pat dry my feet with a clean towel and then I use the ONYX Professional sugar foot file on my heel, around the sides, the ball of my foot, and on any callouses that are on my feet. Once that is done, I take a little water to wet my feet and then go back in with the Freeman “Bare Foot” scrub to remove any dead skin particles from the foot file.
  • After I scrub my feet again, I’ll pat them dry and then take some lotion and rub that all over my feet and ankles. I massage and rub my feet and get some of the lotion soaked in, then I take a pair of socks and put those on for a while.
  • A few hours later, I will grab whatever color of nail polish I like and give my toe nails a fresh coat of polish to add a touch of color to them. Since it is summer, I like vibrant pinks and blues, periwinkle, reds, and some nude shades.

There you go! Filing and scrubbing your feet really make them feel fresh and look nice. If you wear sandals, flip flops, or open toed shoes, I recommend that you try the steps above! Your feet will thank you!

Next week’s post is going to be all about self love, confidence, and how to love your body! I am so excited to upload next week, as it is a topic that I am truly passionate about!

All of my social links will be down below, so feel free to check them out! If you liked this post, please make sure to give it a like and comment your thoughts below!

I hope you have a fabulous week! I will see you next week with a brand new post!

Personal Tag: From One Blogger To Another

Blogger Tag banner

The lovely Marielli ( Unpredictable Mom blog and SweetxSour Beauty) tagged me to do a blogger tag where you answer 11 questions from the person who tagged you and then you answer the questions in a blog post and tag more people! I love blogging tags because you guys get to know more about me and I end up learning more about you guys also. The questions I have to answer will be first up, then the questions I will be asking to the bloggers that I tag. Just like in the last tag, my answers will be the italicized following the questions.

Marielli’s Questions For Me:

What is something you’ve always dreamed of doing? I have always dreamed of a lot of different things. I am that person who dreams so big that they will probably never fulfill half of what they want to do! My biggest dream is to travel before I settle down. I want to go across the globe and see everything! At the very least, I want to visit France, the U.K., Italy, and the rest of the U.S.

What made you start blogging? I started my first blog on Blogger around two years ago with every intention of using it as a personal journal sort of thing. I only ever posted three times on there (all with promises of posting more) and I ended up deleting that blog and account about two months ago. Now I have Glitz and Glitter! Glitz and Glitter is the outlet of my creativity and passions. I love trying new products and writing about lifestyle things. So I guess you could say that I started blogging because I wanted to let out some of my creativity.

Whats behind your blog name? When I was setting up my WordPress blog, my mind went totally blank as to what I should name my site! Everything that I liked were variations of other titles (blog, movies, or otherwise) and were lacking the pizazz that I wanted. I wanted something catchy, that described me and my platform, and that might be interesting. Thus, Glitz & Glitter!

Name something you love to eat but is bad for you. (candy, junk food, certain drink): Any type of baked goods! Cake, cupcakes, pie, literally anything that falls under that category!

Have you ever traveled outside your home? That depends. Out of my home state? Yes, a bunch of times. There is only so much to do in Oklahoma! But I have never traveled outside of the U.S. That kind of fuels my need for traveling!

Rain or Shine? I like a mixture of both, but it depends on what type of mood I am in. If I am sad, depressed, lonely, etc., I love a good thunderstorm! Thunderstorms tend to soothe me anyway, but the sound of rain and distant rumbles of thunder is a perfect friend for a sad mood. If I am happy and positive, bring on the sunshine!

Ever been in love? Nope!

How many times do you post in a week? I post once a week (every Monday!) and I’m hoping to post two times a week soon, but we will see how that blends in with my schedule!

Whats your biggest fear? Being alone/never finding love. The thought of never finding someone who I love and who loves me back unconditionally is really sad and scary to me. I am a very social person and a romantic on top of that, so I truly hope that there is a guy out there for me!

Are you a morning person or night person? I am in between. I am really productive (like this morning, for example) in the morning when I have a lot of motivation or there is something that I really want to do. But then again, I also get a lot of work done at night. Listening to jazz, making more graphics, and scrolling through Instagram and Twitter, that’s my thing.

What’s something you hope to make out of blogging? I would love to inspire others or help them in some way, while at the same time supporting things that I believe in. If something I do helps someone else, I feel like I have actually accomplished something in my life. If someone reads my posts, goes through my social media, or talks to me, I hope that a bit of happiness has been added to their day 🙂

There you have it! Below are my questions for the bloggers I am going to tag. Before we get into that, just know that this is totally optional! If you are tagged and don’t want to complete it, that is up to you! You are not obligated to do so.

General rules about this: If you do decide to do the tag, make sure to link the person who tagged you and answer the 11 questions they asked. You don’t have to tag anyone once you write your part of the tag. You can answer the questions and leave it at that, if that is what you prefer to do. If you do tag others, make sure to write 11 questions for them to answer!

My Questions:

  1. What is one quality that you look for in a potential romantic partner?
  2. What is your favorite body wash product at the moment?
  3. Favorite film?
  4. What is a song that touches your soul (Sad, happy, funny, etc.)?
  5. What is your blogging platform and why did you chose that one?
  6. Goals that you would like to complete by the end of 2017?
  7. What is your favorite perfume/cologne (if you wear one)?
  8. What is one thing from your bucket list that you want to do, but is also thrilling to you? (Ex: sky diving, bungee jumping, etc.)
  9. What was your cringiest date that you ever went on?
  10. Favorite place to go to?
  11. Scale of 1-10, how bad do you think your drivers’ license (or ID) photo is? (1 being not bad at all, 10 being absolutely horrible)?

Those are your questions! I tag Maggie , Saffy, and Anna to do this tag!  Again, if you don’t want to do the tag, you do not have to!

I hope you have a fabulous day! See you back here on Monday with a new review!

XOXO

Liebster Award

OP

liebster award.png

Hello, everyone!

First of all, I would like to thank Anna for nominating me for this award! You are a sweetheart! For all of the info for the Liebster Award, check out their page!

Here are the basics:

What to do if you are nominated?

  1. Post 11 facts about yourself (that you haven’t shared on your blog before).
  2. Answer the eleven questions your nominator asked in their post.
  3. Nominate eleven other bloggers of your choice.
  4. Come up with your own eleven questions for your nominees.
  5. Let your nominees know that they’ve been chosen!
  6. Link back to the person of which nominated you.

11 Facts About Me:

  1. I am a ginger. Red hair forever!
  2. My favorite lotion at the moment is Pink Cashmere from Bath and Body Works.
  3. I have a weird love for rubber duckies. I currently have four: a princess, a unicorn, and two polka dot rubber duckies.
  4. I love animals! I wanted to be a veterinarian for a while but I ended up changing my mind. I would have a really hard time if I had to put down an animal, so I don’t think that field is the best for me.
  5. I am planning on majoring in journalism and photography, with something is mass communications.
  6. When I get my own apartment, I want to get either a cat or small dog so that I have a companion. Again, I love animals!
  7. I love sheet masks or any kind of face mask. There has only ever been one face mask that I had to take off immediately and that was because I couldn’t stand the smell of it.
  8. I love lasagna. If you give me a fresh lasagna that is homemade, you will be my best friend!
  9. I have never been in a romantic relationship. Single as a Pringle, as some would say!
  10. One of my favorite Rom-Coms is French Kiss. Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan together? Yes, please!
  11. I never seem to have enough money when I go into makeup stores…

Questions from Anna (my answers are italicized)

1. If you could have dinner with one person who would you choose?  That is actually really hard for me to answer…There are a lot of people I would love to meet and talk to! Top 3 are Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, and Audrey Hepburn. I honestly can’t pick just one…

2. If you would live in another country which one would that be? Again, another hard question…France or Scotland! I would love to have a small cottage in the French countryside and be surrounded by tons of flowers. But then again, I would love to live in the Scottish highlands. Two totally different places, but I love both of them!

3. Did you go/Are you going to uni? I’m going to! I am a senior in high school and taking some college courses, then off to uni once I graduate! So excited!

4. If you could choose I thing you could only eat for the rest of your live what would that be? Uuummm….lasagna?

5. What is your favourite movie or book? Gosh…I love the Lord of the Rings movie series and also the Hobbit movie series, so I would go with either? If that wouldn’t be acceptable, I would say My Big Fat Greek Wedding! My mom and I watch that all the time and we always chuckle when someone says “biopsy”!

6. If you could speak one other language fluently which one would that be? French. Even though there is no logic in being able to speak the language when you live in Oklahoma, I absolutely love the French language!

7. What is your favourite city in the entire word? I honestly don’t know. I haven’t traveled outside of the U.S. and the cities I have been to here haven’t even been my favorites. I would love to go to New York City, though, and live there for a short while. I have this huge craving to go there.

8. What would be your dream holiday destination? Dream Vacation: traveling the entirety of the United Kingdom. There are so many places that I want to go there and I have friends in London who I haven’t met before but talk to all the time, so it would be amazing to see everyone there! Plus all of the awesome places, history, and architecture? Yes, please!

9. What is your favourite season? Winter. When everything is covered in white blankets of snow and the air is still but fresh, that is my favorite time. I would love to curl up on a couch in front of the fireplace and read while wearing thick fuzzy socks, while the snow falls quietly outside.

10. What is the first thing on your bucketlist? Travel. Again, I want to go to so many different places!

11. Have you ever been to a concert/festival? Which one was that? Yes! I have been to one concert! For my 16th birthday, my parents took my friend and I to the state fair and we saw Dustin Lynch (swoon!!)  after the Bull Riding/Rodeo. It is a very Oklahoma thing to do, totally! *insert my chuckling*

My favorite blog has to be Charlotte Tudge’s blog Charlotte’s Makeup Blog. Her makeup always inspires me and make me want to go open my makeup case and beautify myself. She is a wonderful lady and I highly suggest that you go check out her blog! Her looks are gorgeous, flawless, and delicate. If you are in need of a new makeup blog, click the link above and follow her blog! Her social links are in her blog also, so follow her on all of those too! She is also doing a giveaway when she hits 3,500 followers on Instagram, so go follow her on IG and Twitter!

Here are my questions for my nominees(OPTIONAL, not in the official rules, so you don’t have to do this. I misread the rules, so this is irrelevant.):

  1. What is your dream job and why?
  2. Who is your celebrity crush?
  3. What is your go-to treat to satisfy your sweet tooth?
  4. Have you traveled and where?
  5. Do you have any kids/do you want any kids in the future?
  6. What was the last movie you went to go see in the movie theater?
  7. What is your favorite skin care product?
  8. If you could visit and painter from the past, who would it be and why?
  9. Coffee, tea, or both?
  10. If you could give your younger self any piece of advice, what would it be?
  11. What are your future goals and ambitions?

Hello there!

I’m Mimi and this is my life! This is the second blog I have ever made and hopefully the last.

Coming up with a title took me a while and I finally settled on Glitz & Glitter, which pretty much sums me up! I’m very girly and I love glittery things, so I figured the title was perfect.

Here will be all of my journeys, tales, and everything in between! Honestly, nothing super extraordinary has happened so far, but on the path of life, who knows what will be around the next bend!

A little about me:

I am an aspiring writer on Wattpad and I am an editor for Truth Magazine there. We are pretty fun, so check us out!

I use Pinterest way too much and I can stay on there for hours. I’m also really random, so you will go from beauty pins to Nicholas Cage memes pretty quickly.

If you are into rom-coms, I will be your best friend and I will bring snacks to movie night!

I’m a really open book, so drop me a comment and I will be happy to chat with you!
