Why I Am a Pro-Adoption Pet Owner & My Journey With an Adopted Pet

Why I Am a Pro-Adoption Pet Owner

Hi, loves! I hope you have had a great week! For those in college, let’s try to survive the upcoming finals! I know I’m stressed out about them!

Today’s post is one that is near and dear to my heart because it is something that I fully support and that I recommend to others.  Back in 2010, my parents decided to let me adopt a dog from one of our local animal shelters.  A few years before that, I had been given a puppy from a neighbor of a friend of our family but she later died from colic while I was at camp.  It had been around 2 years, if I remember correctly, before my parents considered letting me get another pet.  My mom took me to our local no-kill animal shelter and we looked around for a half an hour before we came to my future dog’s outdoor kennel.  She was a well-behaved dog, a Labrador and Rottweiler mix, who needed a good home and a few extra pounds.  The shelter let us take her out and let her run around for a while and get to socialize with her.  Fast forward 7 years and I’m sitting here on a Monday night with my rescued dog snoring behind me in her bed.  She’s spoiled, a little bit overweight, but well cared for and rather happy with her home and humans.  I remember walking up to her cage and wanting to break down the door to pet her.  Granted, the 10 year old chubby me probably wouldn’t have been able to, but I thought I was the Hulk!

In the past 7 years,  we have had happiness, sadness, and so many good memories.  In 2015, our Chihuahua-Rat Terrier mix dog had to be put to sleep due to a long going battle with an infection that couldn’t be cured.  Lately, I have thought about her a lot lately and I wish she was still here with us.  And though she be but little, she is fierce.  She fought off multiple snakes, survived a few bites and stings, and protected me and my sister on several occasions from slithering pests that worked their way into our yard.  She had gotten bitten once by a venomous snake and ended up so swollen in her jowls that she looked like a baby hippo for a few days! She lived with us for a long time and she was also a dog that we rescued off of the streets, or rather, she rescued us.

20171024_2024401881891644.jpg

Roxy, my fur baby, has been my security guard for 7 years.  She has been my cuddle buddy when I get cold and she has been an emotional support when I feel low.  Her weight has fluctuated, her hips now have arthritis, and her chin is going grey, but she still acts like a puppy when you toss her the gross and dingy tennis ball that she won’t seem to give up.  She sleeps with me on my bed (I still say she fights off the monsters while I sleep) and groans when I try to get more bed space back or move the covers, but she cuddles closer to me when she thinks I don’t notice.  When she gets moved to my room while we have company, she pouts and her brown eyes get big and almost child-like.  Some people may think dogs don’t have personalities but I know Roxy does.  She will purposely stay where she is at even when I call her and she will sashay down the hallway when she is through with my company, ignoring my calls for her to come back, so believe me when I say that she has a personality!

snapchat-9220270331643565333.jpg

The shelter we adopted her from will always hold a special place in this town for me.  They took care of their animals and made sure that they were adopted into good homes with loving people, they vaccinated them, and they were already spayed or neutered. The adoption, at the time, was completely free (but I think they asked that you made a donation) and after my mother signed the papers, we had adopted Roxy.

So with 7 years under my belt, I have learned a good bit about dog adoption, what it is like to have an adopted dog, and all that jazz! I love dog adoption because you are taking in an animal that has been taken from a bad home, in most cases.  They may have been abused, mistreated, and have been unloved for a long time.  I know when we adopted Roxy, there were a few things that we learned she wasn’t a fan of.  Anything that made a loud noise that was incredibly close to her, she hated.  To this day, I still can’t use a dryer after giving her a bath.  She doesn’t like hitting, be it playful or other.  Whenever my sister and I would wrestle, Roxy would go bananas and try to break it up.  She has also become extremely protective, especially of me.  I remember one time my neighbor was over and pretended to go to hit me with his cane and Roxy jumped up and barked up a storm, while at the same time getting ready to bite him to bits!

Another plus about certain adoption is that you have a new animal companion that is past the puppy stage.  Roxy was 10 months old when we adopted her and she was already toilet trained and listened well when we would walk her on a leash.  I was also rather happy that I didn’t have to clean up any piddles on the floors!  But the biggest pro is that you get healed by having an adopted pet.  I know that may make no sense at all, but there is something about adopting a pet that heals you.  For an animal, it is that they are finally be chosen, they are finally being loved, and they finally have a family.  They ended up in the shelter because they weren’t picked.  Yes, there are a few cases where they are placed into adoption by owners who can’t take care of them anymore, but the majority of shelter pets have been rescued by the shelter in hopes that they are adopted into a good home.  Adoption rates aren’t typically too high and some shelters are rather accommodating if you have another pet.  You can bring your pet in to meet your potentially future animal to make sure that they get on okay.  Overall, shelters just want their animals to be adopted into a loving home.

20171110_1921151211829102.jpg

So 7 years and here we are.  Roxy goes by “booboo”, “pretty girl”, “little bear”, “nugget”, “schmoo”, and just about anything else.  She likes her ears and back to be scratched and she has been sprayed by 2 skunks while in a heated chase.  7 years later and she still makes me smile when she wags her tail in her sleep and sticks out her tongue while dreaming.  Yes, it is annoying when I get comfortable on the couch and she decides that she has to go outside (almost every time when I sit down), but she is my fur baby, my security guard, and my monster repellent while I sleep.  I love her to pieces.

20171110_192203741228880.jpg
She let me take 3 decent-ish pictures of her before she ignored me and wouldn’t cooperate..

If you are looking at adopting a pet, check with your local shelter to see if you can schedule a visit and check into their information.  Your next furry best friend is waiting for you to walk around the corner.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Liebster Award pt. 2

liebster2

Hi, loves!

Yesterday I got a notification that I was nominated for the Liebster Award again! I have been nominated a few times and I want to apologize if you nominated me and I never got back to you or thanked you for the nomination.  I am truly awful at responding to tweets and things, so I sincerely apologize!

The blogger who nominated me is Ashley from It’s Ashley Marie (her links will be below!).  Thank you so much, Ashley! You are a sweetie!

So to complete this nomination, you are supposed to give 10 facts about yourself and answer the 6 interview questions (the questions that I answer, you will answer if you accept the nomination!).  I hope that makes sense!

10 Facts About Me

  1. I think I am a weird mix of extrovert and introvert.  There are some cases where I am a very exuberant and out-going person, but then there are other times when I want to hide behind a curtain and never be seen by anyone.
  2. I don’t know what my Meyers-Briggs personality! I know everyone is always saying “Oh, yeah I am totally an INTJ.” but I have no idea what that stands for! Honestly, I say “integer” in my head when I see that..it makes no sense, I know.  So let’s find out what group I am in, shall we? (about a 5 minute time lapse..) Okay, never mind.  It costs about $45 to take the official test and I don’t care that much to pay for it.
  3. I am going to be majoring in fashion marketing next year!
  4. My favorite nail design is the ever classic French manicure! There’s just something about that perfectly drawn white nail tip that is so fetching!
  5. I’m currently working on writing a script for a play…we’ll see how that goes.
  6. I’m pretty old school when it comes to dating.  I want to get to know the person as a friend before I consider dating them and when I do date someone, it is because I can see a possible future with them.  Is that old school?
  7. I think men are 100% more attractive when they wear a tantalizing cologne! Woodsy amber scents are my favorite!
  8. I love camping and hiking! A few of the places I want to camp or hike are the Ozarks, the Smokey Mountains, and Colorado.  You bring the organic snacks (yes, organic tastes better!), I’ll bring the tent and camping bags!
  9. I would really like to own a cabin somewhere in the woods where there are pine trees for miles! It has to have a nice deck where I can sit and have my morning coffee or tea while I enjoy the fresh air.  I basically want to buy a cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico! If you are ever looking for a great place to vacation and have a good chance at seeing elk, go to Ruidoso!
  10. I own one painting! I bought it for under $5 at a small sale and got it framed.  I don’t know why I love it so much, but it is the first piece of art that I purchased, so it holds a place in my heart! The artist is a woman named Elizabeth McHugh and I haven’t been able to find any other information about her, but, Elizabeth, I love your art.

A Short Interview.png

  1. What is one place you haven’t been that is on the top of your bucket list?
Definitely the UK! I want to see all of it! There are so many beautiful places that I have seen on Instagram from the UK and I want to go see them in person!
  2. What is the most daring experience you have had?
I just recently went to an amusement park in OKC and there was a roller coaster that did a circle loop and you would be upside down when you went in that loop.  I was so terrified of falling to my death! It was so much fun though, so I ended up going on it another 3 or 4 times! The other experience was last year at the Tulsa State Fair and they had a ride that goes up in the air and stops, then unexpectedly drops to the ground! My bum rose out of my seat and I knew it was the end.  But the straps and bar held me in, so I am here to tell you how I almost died and flew straight into heaven!
  3. What is your greatest accomplishment?
Goodness! I can’t quite say.  Getting accepted into my choice for uni definitely is up there.  I’m happy I was accepted because I only had one definite backup where I was already enrolled!
  4.   What is your biggest fear?
I honestly have so many that it is hard to list all of them! I fear the lack of love and happiness, that everyone secretly hates me, and that I am never going to be successful in anything I want to do.  And suffocation..I fear suffocation greatly.
  5. What’s a hidden talent you have?
I can do a weird thing with my eyes when I look up and they look funny.  I call it Gecko Eyes.  One ends up farther apart than the other one.  It’s quite strange!
  6. What’s an activity, craft, or sport that you want to learn to do?
I would love to know how to sing properly! I love singing but if it comes to more than just jamming out in my car in the mornings while I am driving to uni, then all bets are off! I don’t tend to sing in front of others because I value their ability to hear!

Here are my nominees for the Liebster Award!

You guys don’t have to do the post if you don’t want to! It is a fun post and helps readers get to know you, so I personally love these posts!

I hope you all have a great Sunday and the rest of the week! I’m off to my first blogger event today and I am going to take lots of photos and have a blog post about it next week!

Lots of love and hugs!

Jamberry Nail Wraps from Laila | review

Jamberry nail wraps banner

Hi, babes! Welcome back to Glitz & Glitter, the best little place on the internet.  Here at Glitz & Glitter, we (and by “we”, I mean me, myself, and I) stand for happiness, uniqueness, and all things lovely.  If you want to be a part of the Glitz & Glitter Tribe, hit that follow button and you are automatically a part of the tribe!

Today’s review should have been up a while ago, but Blogtober called and then things in my life blew up, so the schedule was thrown out of whack.  A while back, a lovely gal named Laila sent me two sample packs of Jamberry nail wraps to try out and review and I can’t wait to tell you about them.  You have probably seen nail wraps before (they are also called nail stickers) in your local shop, but if you haven’t here is a picture of them!

20171028_1958472084116385.jpg

Nail wraps are nail stickers that apply to your nail and seal with heat (I used my hair dryer).  They last for a while and they don’t chip like nail polish does! There is no drying time spent worrying about accidentally denting a nail and redoing anything; just apply, heat, press, and voila! I heated the wraps multiple times while they were on my nails and while I shaped them so I would get the best seal I could.  I did have problems with the wraps lifting, but that was my own fault.  I am a novice at applying the wraps so they definitely weren’t perfect.  There were creases at the sides and I picked at them throughout the week (I know: BAD. Piece of advice: don’t pick at them, no matter how tempting it is!) so that did factor into the short wear time.

The nail wraps are great and I still have some left over! The next time I use them, I am certainly going to have a nail station with everything prepared in front of me so I won’t be scrambling for anything!

I stupidly forgot to take photos of when I wore the wraps, so I don’t have a picture of me wearing them.   I do plan on trying the nail wraps again and hopefully perfecting them, so when I do, I’ll be adding the images on this post!

20171028_195802168187957.jpg

Thank you so much, Laila, for sending me the nail wraps and for being so understanding about my late posting! I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!

Laila’s links will be down below, so make sure to check them out!

I hope you have a fabulous week and don’t forget to smile and listen to amazing music!

Maple Holistics Conditioner Review

maple holistics banner

Hello, babes!

Welcome back to Glitz & Glitter!

Today’s post is a review of a product that was sent to me by Maple Holistics. You may have heard of them from Marielli (thelatinabeautyfix), a friend of mine who has an amazing blog! She has reviewed some of their products before and I am happy that I get to review one of their products for you guys!

I was sent the Hair Superfood Thickening Conditioner to test out a month or so ago, but due to the backup of blog posts and some crazy things in my personal life, I am just now getting to post this.

Let’s start off with a bit of factoids about the conditioner!

  • It is a thickening conditioner, so it is meant for thinning hair. Granted, I don’t have a problem with thinning hair, as my hair is quite thick naturally, but I still wanted to give this product a try!
  • It has a special tingling effect from the menthol and tea tree oil that are in the product. There are a lot of natural ingredients in this conditioner and I love the tingle!
  • It has Volumizing and Oil Therapy.

The conditioner is great and I really think it will be a great product for you if your hair is starting to thin out a bit and you want to get the volume back into your hair. Again, my hair is very thick, so I really can’t tell you if it made my hair thicker or not. My hair did seem to have a bit of volume to it, though, so that is a plus! The tingle is also great, especially since I used the conditioner with my Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo! Double the tingly clean effect!

I couldn’t find an exact price for the conditioner because I couldn’t find it on the website, but the conditioners on their website retail for around $12. If you are looking for a more natural conditioner that also combats thinning hair, I would suggest you give this a try!

Thank you to Maple Holistics for sending me this product!

I hope you guys have an absolutely fabulous week and don’t forget to smile!

Rossario George | Interview With Tony Vincente

Tony Vincente interview blog title

Hi, babes!

Today’s post is a special one and it is the first ever of its kind of Glitz and Glitter! If you follow me on Instagram and you saw my Insta story from Monday, you will have seen that there is a surprise project with Tony Vincente, Founder and CEO of Rossario George, a luxury fashion and home brand. Tony just recently launched his website Rossario George in partnership with Vida. I interviewed Tony about Rossario George, his brand, and more! You guys are also getting a special offer at the end of the blog post, so keep your eyes open for that!

Without any further adieu, here is the fabulous interview! My text will be italicized in black and Tony’s answers are the bold blue texts.

  1. What inspired you to start Rossario George? You said on your website that your mother and sister helped culture a love for all things fashionable and couture in your life; how do you think that their influence has had an impact on your brand? Rossario George was the next step for my business. I have been a business owner since 2009 and Rossario George is its final evolution. It was serendipitous how it came about. Vida reached out to me to see if I had an interest in designing for them. I have always wanted to be a fashion designer but did not have the sources to make this a reality. When Vida call all that changed. My passion for fashion started when I was early, to which I owe to my mother and sister. Both have since left this earth and I think in many ways both are guiding my designs and business choices. I named my first shoe line the “Yvette” heels after my sister and waiting for the right thing to name after my mom. Stay tuned!
  1. The majority of the collections in Rossario George have a predominately Grecian theme and style, which is something that I find very unique and ingenious. The patterns and colors are vibrant and they remind me of one of my favorite time periods and Grecian mythology. The Icarus and Persephone collections are two of my particular favorites. What led you to design with Grecian themes? First, I want to say I am happy you like the “Icarus” and “Persephone” lines! Second, I love the Greco-Roman era of design. It was a truly magical time filled with majestic arts and amazing mythical tales. When I was a kid, nothing made me happier to sit and read stories of Mythology and Greek mythology was my favorite genre. I guess this love never went away only gaining life through my designs.
(right: “Icarus” unisex t-shirt. left: “Persephone” wrap.)

3. Your brand definitely delivers when it states luxury. From pocket squares and pendants to pillows and handbags, everything is unique and has quality. When you were in the beginning stages of creating Rossario George, did you have a vision of what you wanted your brand to be? Oh my god, I so love you Mimi! Keep the compliments going! When it comes to my brand vision, I had one in place for some time. Vincente Living was ready for its next steps and Rossario George was it. Overall, this brand is about providing high quality, timeless and luxurious pieces for men, women and the home.

(Rossario George pillows. Available with or without insert.)
  1. There are a lot of collections on Rossario George and each one is unique in its own way. What is your favorite collection from Rossario George? I have to say I am proud of all of my collections but I am total shoe FANATIC so my shoe collections hold a special place in my heart. Especially the “Bellissima” patent leather boot. Live for those!
  1. On your blog you said that when Vida asked if you would consider collaborating with them, what was going through your mind? It must have been incredible to know that a brand that had previously collaborated with Cher was knocking on your door and loved your style! I was beyond ecstatic and still am to this day. Vida is an amazing company to work with and just as you stated I get to design for a company that works with freakin CHER! To say I am honored and blessed is an understatement.

  1. Your style and the style of Rossario George collections are one of a kind. When I looked at the website before I contacted you on Twitter, I was blown away by the individuality of your brand and pieces. It drew me in and I instantly knew that it was something I wanted to collaborate on. The shoes, the wraps, the pillows, everything is absolutely amazing and I hope to purchase all of your designs at some point in my life! One of the things that also stood out to me was that Rossario George is inclusive. The shoes sizes up to a 13 in most of the collection, there are plus and petite sizes. It’s amazing! When you were designing Rossario George, did you know that having a large range of sizes was something you wanted to do? Absolutely! Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and Rossario George is a brand that will ALWAYS reflect that.

  1. I read through your blog and read why you named your brand Rossario George. It was very touching and I believe the name suits the brand very well. It brings a sense of taste and charm to your collections. When a person wearing your fashion is asked what brand they are wearing, they will look at the curious admirer and say “Rossario George” and the style and name go together effortlessly. For those who are not aware as to why you chose Rossario George as your brand name, would you please give the back story to it? It would be my honor. Rossario George was the name of my partner’s father. He was a man of grace and elegance. I wanted to honor his memory and take from it pieces to grow mine. I’m a private person but I will share no one is more important in this world than my partner. No one has encouraged me more to be who I am now.

My Wish Box Experience | A Wish For You

Hello, beauties!

About a month ago, I contacted A Wish For You, a company that sends a customized box to someone you love or to someone who you think needs a little pampering.  They let me customize a Wish box to send to someone and I am blogging about my experience working with them and ordering from them.

Now, you guys know that I am completely honest when I review something.  If the product isn’t the best, I’m not going to lie and say that it is great, even if it is a sponsored post.  If I love it, I want you guys to love it, too! With that said, let’s talk about A Wish For You!

I loved working with them! Their website is so easy to use and the person I worked with was very friendly and willing to work with me.  I really love it when a company has great customer service because it shows that they really care about who is buying their product and using their services.

So here is how A Wish For You works:

Step One: Select an item that you would like to have in your Wish box! There are a bunch of cute things to choose from and it was really hard to pick just one thing!

Once you have found your gift, you then continue on to Step 2, which is picking out the perfect card to go with your Wish box!

Then you have the option of adding a small message to the person receiving the Wish box!

It is so easy to do and your gift is something that comes from the heart! The gifts start at $10 and it is such a bargain! The boxes from A Wish For You are the perfect gift idea for Mother’s Day, a birthday, or just a little something to let someone know that you appreciate them! You get a tracking number for your order and it is very easy to see where your box is and when it is delivered to your recipient!

I customized a Wish box and had it sent to my friend Malori (you may already know her from her blog A Walk Through My Closet).  I found it hard to pick just one thing to send to her because all of the memento options from A Wish For You are all lovely! Once I found out what I wanted to send her, I picked out a cute pumpkin card and finalized my order!

This is the package I had sent to Malori! She is a huge autumn lover so the pumpkin card was perfect!

I would totally order from A Wish For You again and I recommend that you do, too!

Thank you so much, A Wish For You, for working with me! I love all of your gifts and your company is amazing!

Thank you, Malori, for sending me the photos of your Wish box!!

Have a great weekend guys and don’t forget to check out A Wish For You when you need a special gift to send to someone you love! I will have their Twitter and website links below!

Spooky Films for Halloween | Blogtober

Spooky Films banner Blogtober

Hello, babies! Welcome back to Glitz & Glitter!

Today’s spooktacular post is in collaboration with the lovely Meggan (aka Cardigan Jezebel) and Blogtober here at Glitz & Glitter is all about fall, Halloween, and everything trick-or-treat! As I am sure you can tell by the title, Meggan and I are writing about creepy and cool films that will last you throughout the Halloween season!

My list of films are ones that I have watched and I love to watch every October! Grab a cup of witch’s brew and let’s fly!

An American Werewolf in London

15489203818_c098a5fd2a

David Naughton plays David (so incredibly original, I know!) the American who, after being bitten by a werewolf, transforms every full moon into the hairy beast that is a werewolf! There is a lot more back story to the film, though. David and his friend Jack are backpacking in England and they stumble into a pub (The Slaughtered Lamb!) only a few hours before the next full moon (dun dun dun!). They end up being kicked out of the pub and end up lost on the moors. They are attacked by a werewolf and only David survives, but there’s a twist! David carries the last of the werewolf’s blood and is now part of the bloodline. I’m going to try to stop myself here because I don’t want to give all of the film away, but there is a lot more to the story! If you stumble upon this movie while you are about shopping, buy it or rent it! It is a great Halloween movie!

Edward Scissorhands

Okay, Edward Scissorhands isn’t directed towards Halloween, but it is a Tim Burton film, so it can count! If you love Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, and the amazing Dianne Wiest, you will like Edward Scissorhands! It is rather strange but it is very very cool and you should watch it at least once in your life! Johnny Depp has scissors for (of course) hands, which makes some aspects of life very difficult, but he has a talent for making amazing characters and shapes out of yard hedges, giving a poodle a new poofy ‘do, and all of the ladies funky hair! I love Tim Burton and this is a great film for any time of the year, but perfect for cuddling up on the couch with a Halloween themed popcorn munch mix (coming out in another Blogtober collab on the 27th!)

Ghostbusters

ghostbusters-1515155_960_720

Ghostbusters is a classic! Whether you watch the 1984 original with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis (fave!!), or the newer 2016 revamp with Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Kristen Wiig, your Ghostbuster choice will be the boo of the ball! I am a fan of both versions, but I love the original just a little bit more. I’m all about the originals!

Jaws

Dun dun…dun dun…dun dun dun dun dun dun DUH DUH DUUUH….

Jaws is the reason you sneak up behind your sister in the pool while trying to recreate the famous tune out loud (or in your head..gotta keep the element of surprise) and smack her leg under water or lunge at her. Just me? Okay.

I love Jaws and it is possibly my favorite Spielberg film. It has suspense, blood, peril, all of the stuff that makes a good thriller! Bring that into the water and you will have hundreds of kids afraid to stick their big toe into a puddle! Good job, Steven Spielberg! Now, there isn’t really anything about Jaws that makes it directed for the Halloween season, but this post is all about spooky or scary movies and Jaws scared me for years. You see one head pop out of the side of a boat and that’s it.

Beetlejuice

4768961856_edce58d29c

Beetlejuice..Beetlejuice…Beetlejui- wait! Can’t say it thrice!

Ah yes, another Tim Burton film! What twisted things (or cool, in my opinion) must go on in that beautiful brain to create such films! Burton brings another classic with Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder, and Geena Davis (my queen!).  The first time I saw Beetlejuice, it really freaked me out, but now I have a weird appreciation for it.  I also really love Michael Keaton, so that might be another reason why I love the character Beetlejuice.

Onto our final film of the list!

IT

clown

Oh, yes, people with coulrophobia! Prepare to be freaked out..or mildly upset.

Tim Curry plays IT, aka Pennywise, aka The Dancing Clown. Now, I am sure you have heard of the recent remake of IT, but we are all about classics here at Glitz and Glitter and Bill Skarsgård won’t be breaking up this party! Sorry, Bill.

I have only seen the original film and while I do actually want to see the new one, I have no one who would want to go see it with me and I really don’t want to go by myself. I think strangers find it particularly offending when you jump in the lap and scream “HOLD ME!” while crying into their neck. If you have seen the new one, leave me a comment and tell me what you think of it! New or Old?

So back to the film! Pennywise is a clown (duh, Mimi.) and he terrorizes a bunch of kids in a town and bites off the arm of my favorite child, Georgie. If the killer clown epidemic ever comes back, I will run at one with a saw in my hand, screaming “This is for Georgie!” I am still not over Georgie.

A group of misfit kids come together to get rid of the clown (which is also an alien, I believe.) and once they realize he runs on the fear of others, they try not to be afraid of him, or at least not show their fear. It works, he leaves, but IT returns years later and the kids have to own up to their childhood promise of returning to their town if the clown ever came back. I hate the original ending of IT because I have zero closure and that is not okay.

There you have it, loves! My rundown of my favorite films for Halloween! I’m not really into super scary movies or ones that involve demonic possession, so that is why a lot of good and frightening films aren’t in the list. Scares me for lifetimes.

I hope you have a great Friday and a fabulous weekend! Please go read Meggan’s fabulous post on her site here!

This post did go up late and I apologize. I slept in later than I intended and I have a memorial service to attend today, so this is kind of rushed.

If you did enjoy this post and can’t wait for more spooky fun this month for Blogtober, I would love it if you gave it a like and shared it on Twitter or any other places on the interwebs!

Fall Inspired Makeup Looks

fall makeup looks banner

Hello, babes!

I am so excited for this post because 1) it is in collaboration with the absolutely amazing Bella and 2) it’s all about fall!  Today (September 29th, as I write this) is so gorgeous and it is finally starting to feel like fall! Yesterday was the first day in a very long time that I was able to wear jeans and boots comfortably!

Bella and I started talking about this collaboration a while ago and it was actually supposed to be published a few weeks ago, but things got really hectic and it is just now coming out. Thank you so much for being so understand, Bella babe! Muah!

One of my go-to looks for fall is a brown/nude eye with simple face makeup and a nude lip. It’s very easy and since I stopped wearing foundation,  I have knocked off some time from my makeup routine.

I don’t have any specific colors or palettes that I used for this look.  You can just take whatever light cremes, browns, and one or two slightly darker shades, blend them all together, and there you have it! I used the L.A. Colors Chunky Lip crayon in the shade “Warm Caramel” but any nude lip shade that you prefer will work just as well! I am all about nude lipsticks and this one was the one that I grabbed. All I did for the face makeup was use some concealer, powder, contour, and highlight.  Again, I have stopped using foundation, but if you use it, that’s fine! It is up to you!

The next look is the same eye but with lighter shades and an orange lip.  As I am sure you can already tell, I tend to go for a more natural makeup look, so the majority of these makeup looks are quite minimalistic.  The lip color is Maybelline’s Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid in “Orange Obsession”. I am absolutely obsessed with it!

The third and final look is a dark brown eye with a bit of black eyeshadow blended in to smoke it out.  It is way more pigmented in person than it is in the photo (and I just got a new phone and the camera is not the best in the world). For this look I used the Ulta eyeshadows in Smoke and Soul and the shades “Color 1” and “Color 10”  in the Wet N Wild Au Naturel palette.  “Color 1” is a basic creme shade and “Color 10” is the black shadow.  Any brand will work!

I purchased an eyeshadow palette earlier this month that I was going to use specifically for this collaboration but the colors were not pigmented and it wasn’t working well at all, so these are the three basic fall looks that I go for. The last one is definitely the most dramatic out of the 3.

I hope you enjoyed this post and don’t forget to check out Bella’s post over at her blog!

Coming up next week is Blogtober!! I have the entire month planned out with 4 blogger collabs and a few other festive posts, so make sure to check back in!

I hope you have an absolutely fabulous weekend!

Things I Wish I Knew & I Have Learned in the Past 2 Years

Things I Wish I Knew blog banner

Hello, my lovelies! Welcome back to Glitz & Glitter!

This post is a really down to earth and kind of  a “Letter to my past self” kind of thing and it is everything that I wish I knew the past two years of my life. Yes, I am still young and I learn new things every day. I have made a lot of mistakes and I know I will continue to make mistakes and I am still going to learn from them. Life has a way of teaching you things in ways that you never expected.

So here is my list of everything that I have learned and things that I wish I had known, especially these past two years!

  • People will always disappoint you. No matter who they are, no matter how much you love them, people will always disappoint you.
  • People are going to leave you, but you are better off without them in the end. People leave, they migrate towards others, and they change. You won’t always be a part of that change and that is perfectly okay. In most cases, you are better off without them in your life, even if you can’t see it immediately.
  • The sadness doesn’t last forever. It’s okay to be sad and cry until you don’t think you can anymore, but don’t dwell on it forever. Some people simply aren’t worth it. Wipe your eyes, kid. There are better days on the horizon.
  • Life throws a lot at you, but you can handle it. Trying to figure out what to do when everything seems to be going wrong at once is hard, but with good head on your shoulders, you can figure it out.
  • Get to know a person really well before you truly let them into your circle of life. Be patient. There are amazing people out there in the world, but you won’t always meet them first. Don’t just let anyone in your close circle of friends and your personal life. Not everyone deserves that. Have a circle of your family and best friends, then just friends, and then everyone else. That girl you were friends with for years who dropped you and then comes back with a “hey, it’s been forever and I miss you!” doesn’t need to hear about the past year and all of the drama that it had. She is on outskirts of the “friends” circle and is about to get booted out. Again, people drift and go make other friends. That’s the way of life.
  • Just because you make one mistake, you aren’t a failure! You aren’t a failure, ever. People make mistakes and they learn from them. Just take a deep breath, take a moment to compose yourself, and then ask “Okay, how can I learn from this? What can I take away from this situation?”.
  • Listening to Billie Holiday and pretending to be a fancy woman from the 1930s or 40s is always a good idea. Sure, some people may not see it as “mature”, but that’s their opinion! Be awesome and listen to your Billie Holiday tunes!
  • Never be afraid to ask questions. Always ask questions! Even if you feel a little stupid for having to ask, do it anyway.
  • Unplugging from people, social media, etc. is fine! You don’t have to put your life out there constantly or be the person who tweets the most. Keeping your life private is great! If you start to get frustrated, tired, annoyed, or stressed because of anything, stop and take time to de-stress. You need time to yourself and always take that.
  • You don’t need to look a certain way to be awesome. You can be awesome as a size 32 or a size 2. Your clothing size does not define your worth as a human being. Just walk with you head up and own the room.
  • Success comes slowly. Having big dreams is awesome and you should always go for them, but remember that Rome wasn’t built in a single day. You are going to have to put work, effort, and time into your dreams to watch them happen. Work for it and you will be rewarded.
  • You won’t always have answers. While it bugs the ever loving sanity out of you, you won’t always have answers to “Why”, “When”, or “Who”. And as hard as that is to cope with, it’s okay. You don’t always need to know why, when, or who.
  • Even when life gets hectic, focus on the good things. There are so many bad things that happen in the world and that happen to you. But dwelling on them won’t make your life any happier. Instead of being sad all the time, look towards things that bring a light to your life and strive to make a change in the world. One voice may seem small, but it can move mountains.
  • Never be afraid to speak your mind! People are always going to want to shut you up, tell you to be quiet and bugger off, that you don’t know anything, but never let that silence you.
  • You are strong, smart, lovely, and everything amazing. Sometimes it gets really easy to put yourself down and constantly be critical of yourself, but remember the fabulous words of Aibileen Clark: “You is kind, you is smart, you is important.” Never forget that.
  • Don’t say anything in the heat of the moment! Just hold your tongue and think about it for a minute! Yes, you have a temper, you are strong-willed, and you have a quick and sharp tongue, but you can speak words of destruction in the middle of a verbal battle with another person. Just take a moment to breath, think before you speak, and choose what you say.
  • Do whatever you need to do to calm down. Life can get to be very overwhelming but you do whatever is necessary to calm down. Listen to music, watch a movie, call someone, whatever you need to do. Life always moves on and gets crazy.

The past two years have been insane for me. I’ve made friends, I’ve lost people who were friends, I have come to grips with myself, and I have met a whole lot of new people who are absolutely amazing! I still have to try to remind myself daily that sometimes, things just aren’t going to work out the way you want and they won’t always be the same. I’m trying to cope with all of the changes in my life and the things that I think are absolutely terrifying. The thing about me is I am not a huge fan of changes. I get overwhelmed and I start to freak out a bit. I think most people do, in their own way. But life is always moving on, the earth still rotates. I just have to learn to go with the flow.

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! I know it is different than what I usually post, but I feel like it is a good difference to have.

What are some things that you have learned in the past 2 years? Comment below!

I hope you have a fabulous weekend and as always, don’t forget to smile!

Essence & Makeup Revolution review | Recent Ulta Buy

Ulta Purchase banner

Hello, babes!

We are so so close to fall and I am already feeling the fall vibes! I’ve been trying new makeup looks for a fall collaboration coming soon and I am so excited to show it to you guys! It will be out sometime this month, so be on the lookout for that! Also: I am going to be doing a small Blogmas series in December and I am already have a few ideas going for that! There is already one collaboration planned out for that, BUT I am looking for more bloggers to collaborate with! If you would like to collaborate with me for a Blogmas post that is all things festive and glitzy, please leave a comment below with your information or send me an email at glitzandglitterblog@gmail.com! I would love to work with you!

Okay, now that the announcements are out of the way, let’s jump into the reviews!

I went to Ulta this past Thursday and I was looking for a few things that were affordable and good quality. Granted I have never tried any products from Essence before now, so I had no clue if their products were great, but when I saw the display and how affordable the products were, I knew I had to give them a try! I picked out the Essence Cover Stick in “10 Matt Naturelle” and the gel nail polish in “53 Rock My World”. The cover stick was around $3 and the nail polish was $2, so they are really affordable!

The cover stick is fantastic! I was in desperate need of a good concealer and while I am not really a huge fan of concealer sticks, this one is one of my favorites now. It has great coverage without feeling super heavy and it is buildable. I just put some on my under eyes, nose, chin, and some on my forehead and blend out for great coverage and a good look. I don’t wear foundation much anymore, so a good concealer is great for me. Essence has done a marvelous job! The formula is really creamy and smooth, not streaky or too thick.

The nail polish is a dark grey/charcoal color that I am now in love with. I do recommend using two coats and not just one, like I did. It does cover really nicely, but there are a few streaky spots. If you are in a rush and only have time for one coat, be generous and you’ll do fine!

Next up is the Lip Amplification lip gloss from Makeup Revolution! The Makeup Revolution glosses were on sale for $2.49 that day, so I figured I should pick one up! I purchased the shade “Conviction” and while it looks like a dark brown in the package, it is actually a dark berry shade. When you build it up, it almost looks brown/black, but I rather like it. The formula is pretty good and it goes on smoothly. I had to apply it twice to make sure I had an even look and zero streaks. I’m a big fan of Makeup Revolution and I loved this gloss!

All of the products are absolutely awesome and I hope you check them out the next time you are at Ulta!

Have a great weekend, my loves! Don’t forget to smile and take your fabulous sass wherever you go!
